Hummel "Bookworm" Girl #8, 4 1/2, TMK-1, Crossover, TMK-1 signature, TMK-1 Crown,covered visable by Sculptor Reinhold Unger 1938.
She is in Great Condition; near the neck, a tiny area on the neck is unpainted. Has shelf wear, hand painted
With the lack of appropriate embossed stamping, ink stamp, or Country of Origin, it is unknown when the Hummel was created prior to WWII. Comparing to other TMK-1 Hummels of figure and painting techniques and age similarities.
More importantly, there are many more painting similarities to TMK-1 in the dress, shadow lines, eyes, and socks.
The definition of the drain hole is uneven and has a crudely made hole, which appears in TMK-1.
On the base, there is a "stamp" resembling a leaf on its side. Comparing it to the double crown it appears. to be a partial right side of the crown.
Under bright LED light you can feel and see 3 lines which represent the 3 lines in the crown. This answers the question of Trademark.
The stamp of "99" shows the new clue of the life of this Hummel. Possibly as a early run it had painting samples applied.
A little knowledge of #8 Bookworm Figures:
At first, the #8 Bookworm was the only girl with a yellow duck on the left page of her book, making the Bookworm pairs, which were made to be displayed and purchased in pairs.
In another variation of Bookworm figures were applied to wooden bookends with both the girl and boy Bookworm, design change to a straight back (L-shaped) sitting upright gave balance to the bookends.
This addition to #8 bookends Bookworm began in TMK-3.
Created by Master Sculptor Reinhold Unger master sculptor 1936.
