Hummel "Hear Ye, Hear Ye" #15/2/0, 4 inches Tall, TMK-6, the mint year 1984, in original box Collection and the Love Lives On
Often called a Night Watchman, Lamp-lighter, town crier, or city messenger. They were used to bring the news to the village, light the street lamp, or carry information to the town of Fetes, parties, deaths, or events.
Villages were cut off from information, especially about illness or destructive events. These servants of the town were vital. This boy appears to light the street lamps and announce the hour. He has a hefty coat to wear and an important watch hanging on his coat. His horn will announce the lights or a particular hour. His staff will help him if he needs protection. His lamp light the "punk," which illuminates the street lamp.
The Hummel "Hear Ye, Hear Ye" can be part of a winter grouping, a village grouping as he lights the lamps every night, or a perfect piece to show the range of people M.I. Hummel created.
The Hummel is in New In Box condition, with no breaks, repairs, or cracks.
